Pete Zaccagnino is a Gold Championship Air Racer who competes in two classes of racing at the National Championship Air Races. Pete Zaccagnino races in two of the fastest classes; the sport class and the jet class. The Reno National Air Race is the only remaining air race in the world. This is the fastest sport and probably the most dangerous sport as eight to nine planes race around a course of pylons, flying only 50 feet off the ground at speeds around 500 miles per hour. The racers all realize the danger of the sport, yet because of their love for racing have managed to create a sport where skilled pilots can now fly around a course wing tip to wing tip and compete for a championship title. This video follows highly accredited pilot Pete Zaccagnino around and presents a pit crew perspective of what the daily life of an air racer is at the National Air Races. The video also shows the behind the scenes perspective of his volunteer pit crew which encounters and overcomes daily obstacles to insure that Pete's race plane is safe while achieving the greatest possible speeds.
